It is with much sadness that I must retire my membership of the forum and consequently, also from my role as moderator.

Due to ongoing and worsening health issues I have just spent nearly three months in hospital and returned home yesterday. There are great costs to pay and a reprioritising of my life is necessary.

To say that I have enjoyed my time here would be an understatement. I have met so many beautiful natured people, made wonderful friends, and learnt so much from you all, not just about ukuleles, but about life. This place has been more than a forum to me, it's been my lifeline in many ways.

Unfortunately it is time for a new stage. I want to say to you all, keep loving the ukulele and each other; keep debating heartily but respectfully and keep making this forum the wonderful place you have made it for folks like me.

Thankyou to Seeso, Rick, Staci, Ryan, Aaron and Aldrine for the running of what is THE best ukulele resource anywhere.

Cheers all and God Bless

jon

Jon, I totally understand that you are taking care of yourself. I highly recommend the writings of Terry McBride, who healed himself from a life of severe mental and physical pain. He has a website, and the name of his book is "The Hell I Can't".
Best wishes, and I hope you always have a uke in your hands or nearby. And thanks for being a great Moderator!

Jon,

So sorry for your health woes and that it has made you leave us.

Please know that you have greatly inspired me, both to become a better musician, but also to become a better human being.

Your energy, attitude and tireless spirit have always had a lasting and positive influence upon me, which I continually strive to carry forward. Your videos always made me feel better, as others in this thread have expressed.

I will be sending happy vibes to you as always, and wish you the best of everything.

Until next time, then...

Your brother,

Booli

So sorry those health issues haven't improved. You are so loved by this group. I was new to the ukulele (got a Uke and some lessons on a cruise). I found you on UU and watched your video of Railroad Bill. You are the one responsible for me continuing to play. And you've continued to help. Please peek in when you can and keep strumming.

So I found this cool place, and found a cool guy who made cool videos and inspired me to play. I practiced and I practiced and I practiced and finally a season came up that fit the song I'd been playing over and over, so I did a video. The cool guy gave me such a great response I felt great about myself and my ability, and I kept playing (of course I wasn't as good as my first song) but I played anyway. I still do, something every day.

Thanks for the fun Jon. You really have inspired me, and I hope to someday be half as good as you. Wishing you the best at whatever you do and wherever you end up.

Three things that I will remember about you, Jon:

That you sold me your sycamore Mya Moe and treated me like a prince.

That you are one of the few players that can truly rock a soprano ukulele.

That you, about three years ago, hand-wrote the tabs for "Hey, Hey, My My" by Neil Young for me when you played it on your baritone, in a video, so superbly. Hand-wrote! I still have it printed out on my music stand to this day.

I can think of nothing good that will come of your leaving this forum except, perhaps, with one less Mod, the place can run amok and that's always a barrel of monkeys. ;)

Thanks, Jon. I wish you the best. If your account gets locked or deleted, I'll choke up; so don't do it, thereby leaving the door open to your someday triumphant return.

This is truly sad news; foremost, of course, to hear of Jon’s poor health. Hearing this recent video and seeing the wrist band that's been showing up lately, I have to say I had an uneasy feeling:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtaovkNiOdM

Having been through this scenario myself and recovering, and seeing you bounce back before, Jon, I have no doubt that you’ll bounce back again. Rearranging priorities is part of the process, and if the Ukulele has taken too much away from other concerns, by all means step back.

I know you won’t give it up altogether – you have a gift and you simply can’t turn your back on something like that, even as you take care of other things. You’d be hurting yourself even more to walk entirely away.

And of course there’s a selfish aspect to this post. As others have said, Jon is one of the main reasons I migrated to this forum- around 4 years ago. When I got here it seemed to me that Jon was a bit underappreciated. I posted a thread with a somewhat provocative title, hoping to draw people out a bit:

http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?51510-How-Good-is-Eugene-Ukulele&highlight=Good+Eugene+Ukulele

We’ve all enjoyed his wit, generous spirit, and of course most of all his music. While we’ll miss the new offerings, we’re lucky to have a good store of it online and you can buy albums from his site:

http://www.eugeneukulele.com/recordings.html

I’d stock up on these.

If you can’t play for us again Jon, don’t worry, you’ve given us so much already. Best of luck, mi amigo - you’ve done more for the Ukulele and its players than you’ll probably ever know.
