Looks like he's got a metal pick guard on too.

The pick guard is shaped to spread the transmitted force from the strap assembly so a not to have the strap or pick guard mar or damage the soundhole.

The metal sound hole guard seems like a good idea to me. It would mean that there is less outward force being applied to the soundhole by the thong hook and no likelihood of the hook damaging the soundhole rim. Where can you buy these metal guards?

The pick guard looks handcrafted. The medallion has a uke on it, I think the uke may be superimposed on a volcano. My guess is that it is silver hammered to shape around the sound hole.

I'm guessing the sound hole guard is detachable and has a velvet backing to avoid scratching Jake's expensive uke.

It also looks like a finger rest that might raise the pinky a little so his fingers can reach better.
