My neighbor, the professional, came by today and dropped off a couple of ancient redwood sinker tops. Thanks Dave! The rest of you can drool... My work is cut out for me.
You should have said, "Why, what's wrong with them???" You're a lucky guy, I've been looking at redwood online lately. Can't decide if I should spring for a single "luthier grade" redwood top, or just buy a board of quarter sawn redwood and resaw it myself. A board costs less, obviously, and I doubt there's a huge difference between luthier grade redwood and a board of tight grained quarter sawn redwood. More grain run out, probably, but sound wise, how big a difference could there be?
