That is despicable conduct for anyone, especially egregious from someone paid to protect the public.

Allow me to be the wet blanket for a moment and state that this isn't the first time such a thing has happened, and it won't be the last.

That said, such acts are, in my opinion, inexcusable.

He could have killed her slamming her head around like that.Sadly,I think this stuff is very common.Cops don't have to pass any sort of pyschiatric exam. I remember seeing cops at concerts doing the same sort of thing for no reason.

It's a little funny how the titles says "deputy's alleged assault" because he hasn't been convicted yet, but I'm glad guilty until proof beyond a reasonable doubt found guilty in a court of law still exists nonetheless... even though the evidence is overwhelming on that guy.

Cops don't have to pass any sort of pyschiatric exam.

Actually, cops do have to pass a psychological exam. They have physical fitness exams, polygraph exams, extensive background checks, and have to go through extensive training. Obviously, the psych test isn't 100% spot on; they don't have a "will he/she snap under high stress" exam, but departments that incorporate community policing stress the importance of keeping your cool. The only problem is that not everyone abides by proper procedure. There will always be a few bad apples in law enforcement. It depends solely on the individual.

I remember seeing cops at concerts doing the same sort of thing for no reason.

Security at concerts typically aren't cops. Those are hired private security firms.

Actually some departments do require applicants to sit before a psych board. When I applied at Maui PD and Honolulu PD I had to endure an almost 6 month hiring process. I was interviewed three times and I quit the interview process after I decided to stick with Kaho'olawe.

Now speaking from a former law enforcement officer point of view:
I dealt with many of drunks. I was spit on cursed at and only twice did I have to forcefully take out someone and both times they assaulted me first. The deputy that hit her never should have. She didn't swing on him. THat had her in the padded cell. All they had to do was lock the door and let her scream. Guys like him give all LE officers a bad name and then all the good ones get overshadowed. This is a video that shows you how messed up our judicial system is and then this girl goes and wins a substantial lawsuit. I'd take my lickins for that paycheck.

I think the criteria is different from state to state. And they were real cops outside the concert venue not security.

This is horrific. What was the guy thinking? I mean really!

Well obviously she must have had some kind of explosive in her shoe and not to mention those guns...You see those 22s she had i mean come on he had to defend himself no?

But on a real side when the time comes this cop will get what he deserves...Hope she wasn't too hurt.

For anyone who is interested, this cop has been fired.

Deputy accused of beating teen in holding cell is fired

When his locker was cleared out, they found an unsealed envelope of narcotics.

An evidence specialist and a King County Sheriff Deputy were inventorying the contents of former Deputy Paul Schene's lockers in the men's locker room at SeaTac City Hall. Among the contents of the lockers allegedly found was an unsealed narcotics envelope. Police reports did not state if any charges were going to be filed. The alleged controlled substance found was submitted for disposal.

Another update:

Former deputy accused of assaulting teen due in court today

Former King County sheriff's Deputy Paul Schene will appear in a downtown Seattle courtroom today for pre-trial motions in his misdemeanor assault case.

Schene, 32, is accused of beating Malika Calhoun, then 15, in a SeaTac City Hall holding cell after she was arrested for investigation of car theft on Nov. 29, 2008. The case gained widespread attention because the incident was was caught on video, which was released to the media.

The sad part is he can only spend up to a year in jail if convicted. Are they going to charge him with with illegal possession of narcotics? I believe that's a felony.

The trial of Paul Schene has begun. Read more about it at the link below:

If opening statements are any indication, the fate of Paul Schene will hinge on whether a jury believes his attorney's claim that the former King County deputy sheriff was following his training when he kicked and beat a 15-year-old girl in a SeaTac holding cell.

Excerpts from both opening statements are found at the link.
