We all have our favorite genres and enjoy playing them on a variety of instruments. Ukuleles are often considered as mild-mannered instruments which are genre-limited and best suited for music befitting the "old favorites" heard on reruns of The Lawrence Welk Show and Sing Along With Mitch (Miller). Well, ukes can rock, too.

I'm predominately a rhythm player on my stringed stuff and prefer rock over most everything else. So, my ukes are required to adjust to my style, not the other way around. To make life a little easier for me they are all tuned CGDA just like my tenor guitar and tenor banjo. The below are sound samples of four ukes (three tenors, one an 8-string; one concert banjolele). So, if you have been reluctant to jump into a rock jam with a uke, don't be. Ukes can rock, too.

The sound samples were taken on an iPad Mini using a Voice Recorder app. They came out better than I thought they would.

The Oscar Schmidt 8-String does have a unique voice.
