Speaking from experience of years past, allow me to caution all of you to make it a habit to carry your Uke case with the lid side toward your body. Someday a latch will fail, or more likely, you will forget to latch your case, and the lid will fall open while you are carrying it. If the lid is on the outside, your Ukulele will fall out onto the ground. It's a simple precaution which will serve as a failsafe.

I hope no ukes were harmed in the creation of this advice!

A number of cases have velcro straps to wrap around the neck. That's your fallback insurance (pardon the pun).

I teach band and violin in an arts magnet elementary school. I've seen this happen a number of times, mostly with my violin kids.
Sound advice.

Luckily, my cases have zippers and velcro closures! But very good advice!

After a near-uke-death experience, I started wrapping a bungee cord around my uke case in addition to the latches. I've since replaced all of my cases with new ones that have latches on BOTH sides (hard to find, but Kamaka sells them).
