Right back atcha!

And what better song to play than this one.

Ground Hog

(G) Shoulder up your gun, and (Em) whistle up your dog,
(G) Shoulder up your (C) gun, and (D7) whistle up your dog,
(G) Off to the woods for to (Em) catch a groundhog.
(G) Oh, (D) ground(G)hog!

Run here, Sally, with a ten-foot pole,
Run here, Sally, with a ten-foot pole
To twist this whistle-pig out of his hole.
Oh, groundhog!

Here comes Sal with a snicker and a grin,
Here comes Sal with a snicker and a grin,
The groundhog gravy all over her chin.
Oh, groundhog!

Now, look out, fellas, I done gone wild,
Look out, fellas, I'm a-goin' wild,
Gonna eat that hog before he strikes a boil.
Oh, groundhog!

Ya eat up the meat and save the hide,
Eat up the meat and ya save the hide,
The best banjolele head that you ever tried.
Oh, Groundhog
!

Being a Pennsylvanian, GroundHogDay is a special event. Your song is charming. I have lost score of how many whistle pigs I had terminated and eaten. Never even gave a thought about tanning the hide. Now I am in Oregon. No groundhogs, but we do have delicious free range Nutrias. Next one I score I'll keep the hide and tan it with chromium sulfate solution and useit on one of my little soprano banjos. Thanks for the memories, and new ideas. What's the melody ..some other tune borrowed, or an original? Metre reminds me of Buffalo Gals.
