Test gut strings on 1928 Gibson tenor

The gut strings sound very nice on the Gibson Val, I'm surprised that they have such a clear tone, I thought they might be a little muddy. I like the idea of low tension strings, it's kinder to the instrument, especially the old ones.
Thanks for sharing this information.

As a lute player I'm used to play low tension instruments (and it works very well even in strumming, if the instrument is lightly build witch is the case for early ones).

The strings I use on this recording are (for a tenor 420mm string length)
A : 0.52
E : 0.70
C : 0.88
G : 0.58
Brand is : Kürschner : Email : kuerschner@kuerschner-saiten.de
I don't know if they are sending strings or just dealing with shops ? I'm buying my string to a lute maker shop in Paris.
There are other brand making gut strings (Aquila, Gamut etc...) and you can ask for strings you want, not only already made sets...
Warning, expensive strings (and fragile, you have to change often). But also with a string (most often they are lute strings) you can make two ukulele strings...
