Any good for learning on?

I went to my local wood joiners looking for some'off cuts.

Managed to get this little lot:

4 Spruce boards 5" wide 3-4mm thick
12 Sapele boards 10" wide 3-4mm thick
10 Sapele blocks, 3" perfect size for neck blanks (+heal and neck blocks)

All sawn for me...£10 - (15 usd)

Hopefully this will be ok for practice/learning

...or is it too good to be true?

Hey, my first practice uke was made from a lump of pretty raw, builders pine from B&Q and an ash chair leg from the Habitat dining set we were given as a wedding present. It is more about the process than the materials. so making the mistakes with cheap materials seems like a sound idea. Just crack on and enjoy it

The only hassle, and I know this because I am exactly in yours shoes right now, is that the grain might be going in some funky directions that make bending a hassle. It can be overcome, and I'm sure we will both eventually end up with great results, but the big thing, as far as I can tell, is to make sure to support the wood while bending so that it does not start popping apart. I need to get some shim stock to do this with.
