I really want to have a go at making my own biscuit tin uke and wondered if there's a difinitive guide out there on how to do it?

I'm not sure if it's the definitive guide, but a bunch of people have made ukes with my "Altoids Ukulele" plans.

Have a browse around this site:

Cigar box based, but I'm sure you could transfer many of the ideas to tins.

You'll need to register as a member to view the archive page, but this article on MIMF.com by Deb Suran was one of the first online tutorials and was the starting point of my career.
