A group of us ukulele players are doing some lobby entertainment for a preview of a movie about a river. We came up with a few but I thought it would be fun to throw it open to the forum. Didn't Pete Seeger do a campaign to clean up the Hudson River? There might be river songs there.

I wonder how many we missed?

Thanks. Cheers! Phil

A quick Google search yields this:
http://www.wright.edu/~martin.kich/Rivers/Songs.htm
which I suspect is maybe about 0.3% of the songs about rivers written/recorded in English.

Left to me, I'd have to include Johnny Cash's "Big River", CCR's "Green River", Mississippi John Hurt's "Sliding Delta", and a couple of old-timey favs like "Down to the River to Pray" and "Banks of the Ohio".

Just Like A River, Old Man Luedecke
When The River Runs Dry, Hunters & Collectors

Lots of river songs by John Hartford.

'Where The Wild Roses Grow' by Nick Cave
