heyup uu!!

Where is the most extreme place you've ever played??

For me, it's on the roof of my house playing gitara at sunset. That was my idea of ukulele heaven!!

What about you?

Peace  and beer

In the waiting room, and then standing by the Radiotherapy Machine at the Cancer Clinic, after my final session. That was definitely a "first" for the other patients, the Nurses and the Technicians. That was five years ago.:old:

The oddest place (and it's not really that odd) for me is in bed. I often spend a couple of hours ukin' before bedtime. :music:

I've whipped out my uke on a plane before. The person next to me got weirded out. It was pretty funny!

While in combat. Shells were landing all about, rapid machine gun fire whizzing past my head. So I pulled out my ukulele and started to play calming the other soldiers and that of the enemy. Then as I walked across no mans land both side came out of the trenches and we sang Rock'A Hula by Elvis. As laughter and merriment were in full swing .....I woke up! This is my 100th post! Hip, hip..:smileybounce:

I don't know if I'd call it odd, but at the end of a residency at the Banff Centre in 2003 all the artists hiked up Tunnel Mountain to watch the sunset. I brought my ukulele and sang some songs. It was really nice.

I was on tour with a band and we played a gig somewhere off Route 66 in New Mexico. Though the room was rather small, the stage was about 15-20 feet off the floor. The drummer decided (since we were so high and he'd be set so far back) that he would play the gig in his birthday suit, even though it wasn't his birthday.

On my sailboat in the middle of the St-Lawrence. For hours and hours and hours.... I used to bring my 12 string jumbo dreadnought geetar but now I have two kids + the wife so... I got back into the uke! Next I'm gonna buy a roll up piano.
I also played my uke waiting for my turn at the hospital (for hours... just kidding). Apart from a few smiles, no one reacted... And regularly at the restaurant waiting for my meal.
I'll usually bring my uke anywhere when the kids are around...

Wow, my story hardly compares to some of yours.

We have a large Festival called "River Fest" which is the largest gathering in the state of Arkansas. Last year there were around 250,000 who came to it. While we were waiting for people to clear out off the road, I broke out my uke and started a montage of songs using the same G, C, D progression. Songs included Solja boi, Shawty got low, Crazy train, Free bird, a few White Stripes songs, and anything I could think of at the moment. I jammed for a good 30 minutes and changed my songs according to the demographic walking by.

I was just up in Big Bear (southern California ski resort) with my flea.... kids were sledding and I was stumming like I was sitting on the beach :). Flea kept going out of tune though... probably too cold for "Yoda."

I try to keep a uke in the car at all times so I can play whenever the mood takes me; so I have played on top of a carpark in Leeds City Centre (delusions of the Beatles Let it Be session) and I have entertained the workers at a carwash as they valeted my car.

But the weirdest place for me was in a supermarket carpark in the middle of the night - it seemed like a nice ironic touch at the time - for Alan's 80s song challenge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcqyY9Ar4a8

You do feel a bit suspicious and self concious performing in your own headlights as passing cars slow down to see what you're up to. I reassured myself with the thought that if the police turned up I could convince them that I wasn't about to break in ormed only with a cheap video camera and a ukulele.

The explanation of what I WAS up to could have taken some time, though.

Hitchin Conservative Club in Herts.

It was a return gig - we played there at Christmas too.

There were 8 band members. Apart from our wives and friends there was no audience. In the distance at the bar we thought we could make out the hazy forms of a couple of club members, but that could just have been a mirage.

Everyone else was away in a separate end of the L-shaped room and only showed their faces when the buffet opened. Once they'd fed they vanished again.

If they ask us back I'm gonna veto it. Dreadful, dreadful gig.

A very strange place indeed. Elderly Hertfordshire Conservatives look like well-dressed versions of extras from Romero movies.

At Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios. One of the street performers had a (crappy) ukulele. I asked to borrow it and started playing/singing "I Will Survive." :nana:

The next day we got a Flea and we carried with with us all over WDW for the next couple of weeks. :D

Recently I got a new Mainland that I wouldn't put down but I had to run errands, so I ended up giving an impromptu concert at the local dive shop while waiting to get scuba tanks filled.

but the most odd spot was my secret sturgeon honey hole just past one AM at the beginning of february. my cousins and i were by ourselves and i remembered my beach`ukulele in my truck. grabbed it and annoyed the hell out of them because they couldn't hear their bells.

Over the summer I picked up a new Kamoa soprano at Larry's and played it the whole time as I hiked from Koloa to Po'ipu and then back to Lawai. It was a hell of a walk. By the time I gave it to my girlfriend it already had quite a few miles on it and was filled with genuine Hawaiian beach sand. ;)

:o it wasn't even in pidgin!

translated: my cousins and I usually pull all night fishing trips during peak sturgeon season here in the sf bay area. i found a spot a few years ago, that has produced some decent sturgeon bite for us. what's better is its pretty clean and deserted, hence it's our secret sturgeon honey hole. sturgeon have a weird bite to it -- tap tap tap. so to our fishing poles, some of us use little bells to amplify the hits. usually, we're pretty quiet, even whispring when we dunk bait. so though we didn't get any bites that night aside from early-in-the-season sharks, my playing drowned out any chance for them to hear the bells.

This isn't particularly odd, it just felt a littl eweird. but the guy at the airport security check had me take it out and play it. Like many folks, he was surprised to find that the little instrument packs a punch.

Mine isn't really odd either, but a week or two ago I was at the inlaw's house, and they live up in the woods. In that part of the great state of West Virginia, nothing is blooming yet, the woods were gray, the sky was gray (but it was a pleasantly warm day), the house is gray, my shirt was gray, but my uke was bright red. It was nice to play outside, but it was seriously strange when I went back inside and saw colors again.
