Trick for getting tenon/neck inserts straight

I thought of this today

The metal device is a dowel jig. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/811564/Economy-Doweling-Jig.aspx

The other metal thingy is an T wrench insert tool from Woodcraft. http://www.woodcraft.com/…/…/T-Wrench-for-14-20-Inserts.aspx

Not only straight but I am thinking the side clamping reduces the risk of splitting too.

Yep-

After this, i flood the end grain with thin ca to really stabilize it.

Question: Why do you wait to put the insert in after you cut the tenon?

We always did this before we cut the tenon or cut the neck, everything works from a center line anyway. Far less chance of blowout/tearing/splitting or breaking fiber if you do this before the tenon is cut and the material is so small. Templates are easier if they are flat as well and can be setup for a multitude of different necks.

im bad at getting it all good- i have no jigs to cut this- its all by eye so i have to do each one separately.
