Hey everyone,
I was wondering if there were any fellow uke players in the Baltimore, Maryland area. It would be dynomite to rendez-vous with like minded people.

I'm some what new to the game. Played some uke back home (Hawai'i) but lost contact with it for over a decade. Currently I'm getting back into it and loving it. ^^

And this is my first post to UU.

Thanks!

In DC`

I'm in DC, but am REALLY just starting....like just starting to play. Perhaps in a few months once I can do something more than strum a few chords.

It'd be awesome to do a jam! (Strawberry jam~~~)

I could bring my djembe or heck a washboard even. Once the weather gets nicer we should get it together like the Beastie Boys and just bug out.

Cheers+Aloha,
Var

I'm in Baltimore. Count me in.

Also, there's this thing in April in Maryland (eastern shore):
http://www.funkyseagull.com/retreat.html

It's not just banjo players, it's uke players too apparently. The guy who organizes this retreat is the same guy who does the Ukulele Project workshops for schoolkids. That's how I found out about the festival. If any of you are interested in going, lemme know (i think registration is $100 if you don't plan to stay overnight there.)

But i'd also be up for a separate UU-member Maryland/DC meetup sometime too. Why not make it an east-coast meetup...

Groups in DC Metro area

Depending on what you like to play, there are several groups. I think the largest is the Hawaii State Society (http://www.hawaiistatesociety.org). Of course, they play Hawaiian or hapa ha'ole songs. A few other numbers sneak in. Usually meets on Wed in Arlington area.

There's also the Metropolitan Ukulele Association (MUA) in Baltimore area (http://www.metroukeassoc.org/). They play a lot of different genres. I'm not sure how to contact them. I went to one of their practices because I know someone in that group.

And then there's NoVA Ukulele Group (http://www.meetup.com/The-Centreville-Ukulele-Meetup-Group).

All depends how far you want to drive and what kind of music you want to play on your ukulele.

Thanks Kahuna, I knew of the Hawaii society and Metro Ukes but the NOVA group is news to me. I am pretty close and think I will check them out sometime.

Baltimore Uke

I am interested too....an old lady (55) and a beginner, too...but having the time of my life.

For those in the Baltimore area, when the weather permits sometimes couple of us just newbie jam out in Mount Vernon Park or at Federal Hill Park. These days we've (2-3 people) just been hanging out with our djembes.

PM me if anyone is interested. =] We were thinking of this Friday 2009-04-03 at Federal Hill for a newbie jam out after 3pm EST (drum or uke or others all welcome)

I might be able to go this. Might.

I'm down. Lemme know what you decide - Mt vernon or fed hill?

I'd be willing to throw a UU party anytime, but i live kinda out in the wilderness. Might be good for a summer bonfire party.

Strathmore Ukulele Festival - July

Victoria Vox told me about this uke fest in MD in July with James Hill, etc. Could be a good time and location for a UU jam. I am in Richmond but would love to drive up. What do you think??

So is this happening tomorrow or what?

Good morning (as of this post)
Hmm... I'll have to take a look at my settings in regards to the PM, that's odd.

For tomorrow's mini gathering it seems it will have to be cancelled due to severe rain we're having in Baltimore today. I was hoping we could sit around on the grass and just jam out. Ugh!! I was so looking forward to it, I got some djembe, toere, tongue drum, and other fun sound making things ready for it.

Lets try to set up another date ASAP.

Sincerely,
Var

Good morning,

We are going to see Victoria Vox this coming Sunday 2009-04-19 in Baltimore Maryland at the Metro Gallery at 7pm. Is anyone else going? It would be nice to meetup with people before hand or perhaps a drink afterwords.

Check out the link below of her music in iTunes

(this link will open iTunes.app)

Also another thing. It's not ukulele related but it's music related. Some of us are having a small drum circle jam at Federal Hill this Saturday 2009-04-18. The geo cords and info is here on a FB group. All are welcome to hang out.

Have a good week all,

I know this is long after you're post but I hope you still check it. I'm trying to create a ukulele club to meet at the TJ's in Pikesville. I just need to get about 10 people interested so that I can move forward with it. It will be all ages and skill levels and completely free! Please check out and join my website http://ukecomp.webs.com/ and or e-mail me at shawnsilvious@aol.com so that I can get the ball rolling.
