Sez here (https://songbook1.wordpress.com/fx/1920-hits-and-standards/the-japanese-sandman/) that Hoagy Carmichael performed JAPANESE SANDMAN on ukulele in the 1952 film Belles on Their Toes. I'll bet he noodled away at other times too. (I just happened upon that while searching for tabs.) Then there's Rocky Marciano (http://www.musicradar.com/us/news/guitars/10-famous-and-surprising-ukulele-players-575782/7) and I wonder if his hands hurt?

Aloha Stan - I love the vintage songs, am working on fingerpicking much between 1850 and 1950. I found the Japanese Sandman lyrics at http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/t/thejapanesesandman.shtml and the tabs at http://www.ukulele-tabs.com/uke-songs/lauren-sharpe/japanese-sandman-uke-tab-32187.html -- but the latter is flaky. Here's what I'm starting with:

C . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A7
Here's the Japanese Sandman sneaking on with the dew
. . . . . . . . . . D7 . G7 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . C D7 G7
Just an old second-hand man, he'll buy your old day from you
. . . . . . . . . . C . . . . . . . . . . . . E
He will take every sorrow of the day that is through
. . . . . . . . . . . . . B7 . . . . . . . . . . . . E A7 G7
And he'll bring you tomorrow, just to start a life anew

. . . . . . . . . . . C . . . . . . . . . . . . A7
Then you'll be a bit older in the dawn when you wake
. . . . . . . . . . D7 G7 . . . . . . . . . . C D7 G7
And you'll be a bit bolder in the new day you make
. . . . . . . . . . . C . . . . . . . . . . . . . E7
There's the Japanese Sandman, trading silver for gold
. . . . . . . . . . D7 . G7 . . . . . . . . . . . C G7 C
Just an old second-hand man trading new days for old

[instrumental] [repeat last verse]

Oops, the chords aren't quite right on those last two lines. I'll have to work on that. WORK!

Hi Stan,
he is a big country star down under, married to Nicole Kidman although he has had success in the US as well. Here's a bit of his history

Keith Urban is signed to Capitol, Urban made his solo American debut in 1999 with the album Keith Urban. Certified platinum in the US, it produced his first Number One on Hot Country Songs with "But for the Grace of God". "Somebody Like You", the first single from his second Capitol album, Golden Road (2002), was named by Billboard as the biggest country hit of the 2000s decade. The album's fourth single, "You'll Think of Me", earned him his first Grammy. 2004's Be Here, his third American album, produced three more number 1 singles, and became his highest-selling album, earning 4 Platinum certification. Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing was released in 2006, containing "Once in a Lifetime", as well as his second Grammy song, "Stupid Boy". A greatest hits package entitled Greatest Hits: 18 Kids followed in late 2007. Defying Gravity and Get Closer were released on March 31, 2009 and November 16, 2010 respectively. In September 2013, he released a brand new album titled Fuse, which produced three more number ones on the newly introduced Country Airplay chart.

Cheers
