I would like to learn some songs on the uke ... Since I don't (want to) sing, I am looking for some instrumental compositions that would show the softer side of both myself and the instrument. Something balladesque or even romantic that I could play for my lady :)

I am very much a beginner, so I would prefer the recommendations to be not TOO hard - but I do like a challenge!

Search any song you like, Eddie, then select ukulele from the drop down menu. Simple, efficient. Create a free log-in and start saving your favorites.

Lucky lady you have; and she's lucky to love a uke man.

Mike Lynch sells his stuff either individually or in ebooks. The Mike Lynch suggestion is a good one. His instructional videos are easy to follow and his arrangements range from very easy to less easy but never very hard.

I'd also like to throw in an endorsement for Mike Lynch's arrangements. I've been playing uke for 4 months and I find his stuff challenging but certainly do-able. He has a series of three chord/melody books. I bought volume 1 and am pleased with it. The first song I tackled is Yesterday by the Beatles.

Howdy Eddie.
Being married to a Chinese woman means I have to be frugal; ergo, I would like to share a few of the free sites I like to use to look for songs.

Not sure if you're wanting chording, or more like.... chord+melody.

If you want chording... http://play.riffstation.com/ is excellent. It works as an overlay to youtube. So anything on youtube, it can analyze and give you the chords, select uke at the bottom right, and it gives it to you in uke chords, and if they're awkward, you can capo to shift the cords to something easier. It lets you move the capo around in case you're not sure how to shift, you can shift until it's chord shapes you recognize.

Besides being convenient... its alotta fun.

Definitely looking for chord + melody or just melody. Think renaissance music like Blackmore's Night and the likes. Anything that sounds nice and shows a softer side :)

For sheer romance and entertainment, you can't beat Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World. I'm not 100% sure, but I think there are several tutorials for the instrumental version on You Tube, maybe even by Michael Lynch.

"True Colors"

You with the sad eyes: Don't be discouraged, Oh I realize It's hard to take courage.
-2---0--------2---0-----2----3---5---5---3---2--0--0-2----0------2--2---2----2-0--------------
----------3---3---2-----3------------2-------------3---3---------3-----------3-2--------------
--------------4---2-----2------------2-------------4-------------2-----------4-2--------------
--------------x---2-----0------------2-------------x-------------0-----------0-2--------------
In a world full of people, You can lose sight of it
------x------------0---0----2---3---5-----5---5--7--------------------------------------------
---2--3-----3---3--2---2----3-------------2---------------------------------------------------
-2----2------------2---2----2-------------2---------------------------------------------------
------0------------2---2----0-------------2---------------------------------------------------
And the darkness inside you Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors Shining through. I see your true colors And that's why I love you

----------------0----2-----0---2-----2------------------0----0-------------------------------
So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful, Like a rainbow
9---10---10--10-10---------0---2----------x----------x------0-2--2---2---0-0-----------------3
----7-----------7--3---2-------3----------3----3-----3-----3---------3----------3----3--3-2-0-
----7-----------7------2-------2----2-----2------2---2---------------4------------------4-3-0-
----7-----------7------2-------0----------0----------0---------------x------------------------

This is not as hard as it might look. It plays the melody inside some basic chords, so there's not alot of moving on the left hand outside the chord shapes.
