I am excited about a simple headstock design I have in mind for the tenor uke I plan to build this summer during my Hana Lima course.

I was hoping to put a thin stripe of abalone down the middle of the headstock. For this I need some straight abalone not the curved shell that Hana Lima supplies for the uke's rosette.

Can anyone here point me in the direction of a source for straight pieces of abalone?

thanks,
Erin

I would check with Mike before you set out on that plan, just to see if the course allows extra time in the schedule to do something like what you have planned.

Yup, did that! It was Asa that suggested I source out some strips of abalone and bring them along to the course because at Hana Lima, Asa said they only had the curved pieces used in the rosettes.

What width do you need?

What width do you need?

The width could vary...could be around 1/8 th of an inch. Just a attractive detail up the middle of the headstock from the nut to the end of the uke.
