I'm a novice at arranging songs, and in deciding what to try next, I've been trying to think of what might sound good on the ukulele, (especially if someone other than me arranged it, LOL.)

What do you look for in a song or composition for ukulele? (Aside from just enjoying that piece of music in general.)

Honestly, nothing. If it's a song I like, I'll look into putting it on the uke. It leads to a lot of different tunes that may not initially be thought of. Some of those include:

MIGHTY - The Planet Smashers (ska/punk)
SOLISBURY HILL - Peter Gabriel (world)
HONOR IS ALL WE KNOW - Rancid (punk)

It's just a trial and error thing. Some work out well, some don't, some need a little bit of work to make them sound good.

You could always start with iconic numbers like TIPTOE THROUGH THE TULIPS and UKULELE LADY. :D But really, whatever works for you is IT. I do melodic-chordal picking of FREIGHT TRAIN and ONE-NOTE SAMBA and BICYCLE BUILT FOR TWO (many open strings) and THINGS WE SAID TODAY (closed and jazzy). The best pieces are those that make me play them. If the song insists, how can I resist?
