I ordered a Toby Chennell (Jazzboxukes.com) baritone a year ago. As he was starting to make it he found a set of sides that matched the back better so he used them instead. At the same time he used the old set to make a uke bass. He offered the bass to me at a great price so I just couldn't refuse. They get sent tomorrow and trustfully will be here in time for our last Uke group get together of the summer happening this coming Saturday.
I'm getting really excited to finally having two true archtops. I'm naming them after my grand nephews who trustfully will be playing them for their grandkids someday. They're the third generation of pickers so will have many fine instruments to pick from after we old foggies are gone. Right now they are 20mos and 4 yrs old and already sitting in the jam sessions.
Chennell uke bass cutaway : carved Cedar arched top, maple sides with carved back, rosewood fretboard with passive pickup.
Chennell Baritone cutaway: Carved spruce top, maple sides with carved maple back, thin fast low actioned maple neck with a slight radius to the ebony fretboard, adjustable ebony bridge, purfling around entire body, neck and headstock with burled walnut veneer headplate and burled walnut pickguard.
He only had Martin strings for the bari so will be changing them with Southcoast HL-SW's.
I tell my wife that I swear this will be the last one... well until ....
