Ok, here's the deal:

I am German but I do not like the language, I prefer English to it.

BUT I want you to cover any song from Germany you want. (not necessarily in German)

There is no specific time frame (like 60's or 80's).

It's not about the "correctness" of the lyrics. Nor do you have to play it in the style as the original, feel free to change it into something new!

post as many entrys as you want.

must involve Ukulele.

Put the phrase "Ohne Musik wäre das Leben ein Irrtum" (owna moosic ware dus laiban In earrtoom, that's at least close to the German sound) into the beginning (It means: without music life would be a mistake)

PRIZE: A song/tune, whether composed by me or a cover (what you prefer) on any of my instruments. (in case you choose a composition, I'm gonna do one especially for you!)

Deadline: Sunday, 12th of April, 6pm CET

OK, that's it (I hope someone is participating^^)

*"Modern Talking" and "Tokyo Hotel" do not count*:stop:;)

Das kann doch noch nicht alles gewesen sein (http://www.box.net/shared/xl4fvt9gk0) (audio only)
The original version by Georg Danzer is Austrian, I had to change the lyrics a bit to put it into my native high German. I usually do not sing German songs neither...

One more, an instrumental version of Reinhard Mey's Über den Wolken (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx1_hfyjijE).

HoldinCoffee: I know man:D

btw, I'm gonna try to put all entries to the first post, but I won't be around on the weekend, so no worries, it's gonna be done later!

Oh, and I want a phrase for the beginning, like: "Ohne Musik wäre das Leben ein Irrtum" (that's by Nietzsche, it means: without music, life would be a mistake. and in the whole quote he also says nothing is as sweet as the sound of a bagpipe!)

Like Bert Kaempfert, haha! I think I'm gonna see all that music in a new light, played and interpreted on Uke...

"Da Da Da" by Trio? (Made popular by this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_s5-R_JE4c ) A few verses of English and one line of German repeated ad nauseum...you don't even have to be able to sing well!:

This is a better version than the original!

Ironic that he'd be worried about Reagan what with the Soviets breathing down the Germans collective necks. And that Reagan played a huge role in destroying East Germany.

OK, here is a song I wrote about 25 years ago. It's a parody on german schmaltzy songs. It can be heard on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/floydblue or downloaded in better quality from my homepage: http://floydblue.de/songs/schnulze.mp3. I dedicated it to a guy who was/is very popular in this musical genre. I hope you will laugh out loud when you here this song. Sorry, there is only a large 12 string uke in it... Feel free to record it by yourself.

Here are the lyrics with chords and a translation into English:

Schnulze (für Howie)
====================

Dm/// G/// C/C(B)/ Am///
Dm/// E/// Am/// Am///

Dm G C C(B) Am
Wenn der Wind in Deinen Haaren spielt
Dm G E E7
Dann weiß ich Du bist mein (oh yeah)
Dm G C C(B) Am
Wenn der Mond hoch am Himmel steht
Dm E Am

Was auch geschehen mag (oh no)
Wir werden immer glücklich sein
So wie am ersten Tag

Translation:

When the wind is playing with your hair
I know you're mine (oh ja)
When the moon is high up in the sky
I would be happy

Yes, when the red lilac reflourishes
And the white too (oh ja)
And when you're resting in my arms
Then you know that I need you

We will never part
Whatever will happen (oh nein)
We will always be happy
like the first day

European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations however, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard "c" will be dropped in favor of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

Oh man...UU spell check had a doozie with that one!

I'm gonna send this to my English teacher, it's hilarious! BUT: we had such changes in German... for real, the words "Photographie" & "Philosophie" were changed to "Fotografie" & "Filosofie". "Mayonnaise" was changed to "Majonäse". most of the words containing "ß" were changed to "ss"... and that's just a few examples... It's as if everyone is forced to write like elementary school again! and it's ugly!

but thanks for the good laugh!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgLiJ0AokT8

and I was impressed by the rolling of his RRRRrrrrr's so I decided to do a cover using a terrible mock German accent.

It is totally out of sync the video and the audio that is because I was fooling around with effects in movie maker. Still if you watched movies from the 20's 30's everything was out of sync... at least that is my excuse. I am not doing it again.

FIRST PLACE: mctrmt was able to convince all the judges with her sweet performance of a song which was entirely unknown to me in the first place: Sonne statt Reagan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH_bIq7bBC4). M-A, please PM me to tell me if you prefer an original song on Uke or a tune on the pipes or whatever you might like!

SECOND PLACE: goes to deach (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_ZgSylS_Jo) with a amazing cover of the Scorpions and Greeno (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjTHvNXm2mg) who made me like one of the most annoying Techno-Pop songs from Germany of the last year, Du hast den schönsten Arsch der Welt. Both of you win a cover by me of a song you want.
