Inline bass tuner

My Chennell Uke Bass arrived last night. I'm looking for a tuner I can use on it. Probably an inline tuner or if there's a headstock tuner that would be good also

It's a beauty. What are the dimensions? Those look like Road Toad Pahoehoe strings. I have to know Patrick, how much is that bass? How long did you have to wait for it? I'm sure you could use any headstock tuner, which would be there whether you're plugged in or not. I practice without an amp all the time with my Gold Tone MicroBass, which has a preamp with tuner that I replaced not long ago with a very nice Joyo from China.

Hi Mike, the dimensions are the same as a baritone. Toby found a better matching set of sides for my archtop so decided to use these to build a bass at the same time. Yes, I'm pretty sure they are Pahoehoe strings. They are a little floppy but it may be because the tuning may be out as my headstock tuners don't pick up the vibrations for tuning. Hence my question for an inline tuner. I just received the two late Friday night and haven't really had the chance to monkey around with the bass too much yet. First thing I did with the baritone was change out the Martin strings to a heavier HL-SW Southcoast string. Toby said I could put metal strings on if desired because of the floating bridge in an archtop so may do that in the future.

He gave me a really good deal on the bass since I was already buying the archtop. Looking at his price list it looks like it would come to around 960BPS or 1450.00 US. I waited almost a year to the day from downpayment to delivery. There was a delay due to a death in his family and arm injury. I had no problem waiting as I wanted him in top form when he made mine. He's mostly known in the stand up bass and jazz guitar circles. His uke building is really catching on and I'm sure the wait list wil just get stronger. I really enjoy reading your threads on the upgrades you've been doing. In fact, they were one of the reasons I decided to get back to playing the bass.

About bass tuners. I don't recall where I got it, but for nearly 20 years I used a variant of the Korg GT-2 that was labeled as a Bass & Guitar Tuner. That thing was accurate, had a switchable backlight that made it easy to see on stage and lived through nearly 20 years of heavy gigging use. It's since become unreliable and resides somewhere in a "to be repaired as soon as I either have the time or get bored/desperate enough" box in the bowels of my studio. Downsides? It wasn't chromatic, and could only do standard tuning or a half-step down.

Lately I've been using either a Super Snark or the built-in chromatic on my wireless receiver. The Snark works pretty well except for the B on the short-scale five string.

Thanks for the info Patrick, and the compliment. One day I may have to have one of those made. I wonder if a set of steel wound nylon core Pyramid u-bass strings would work. I know the other bass player in my group uses them on a spruce top Kala U-bass and they sound pretty good, though a little too metallic for me, I really like the sound and feel of the Pahoehoe.
