My name is Jerry, and I live in the Catskill Mountains of NY. A little over a year ago, I got involved with some players, the Catskill Ukulele Group. Half a dozen of us meet every week at the local library. Most of us were beginners, but we're getting better. The last two meetings had fourteen people, so we're growing.

We use two Jim Beloff books, the blue and the yellow, as well as various individual songs. We all use sopranos ukes. In May, I spent four days at Uke Fest 2015, which was held nearby. That was a real learning experience.

Right now, I'm thinking about making a ukulele, so I've been searching the Web, and that led me here. I'll probably do a separate post about that.

I'm a glutton for advice, so feel free to pass along anything you think is relevant.

Welcome Jerry
Yes, this is a great place to learn all about ukes. There are some very talented and helpful luthiers here. Good luck with your uke project! Don't forget to post pictures of your progress.

Aloha and welcome Jerry. Glad you joined in.

As far as building a uke, Hana Lima 'Ia http://www.hanalima.com is a great resource. I did a concert uke and the instructions were great ( I did a hand bend of the sides though). The other option is a StewMac http://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Kits/Tenor_Ukulele_Kit_with_DVD.html pre bent and neck done kit.

The Luthier section is a great resource and a freindly bunch.

Good luck and keep us posted. In process pics of a build always welcome.
