In case you missed it here (http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?109592-Did-anyone-get-lucky) in post #17, there is another lovely MBU up for auction on HMS.

Macassar ebony with Adirondack spruce top, arm bevel and sound port, with an incredible Hula girl.

Well the last two auctioned in mid-July went for $6,675 and $13,800.

I'm guessing this one will be closer to $13,800 than $6,675.

LOL who voted that it would not sell? As if!

I saw this one in the shop, before the Hula Girl went into the headstock, and it blew me away. The combination of woods on the 'armrest', the top and the rosette is stunning. Oh well, better start saving up more.

I agree with Hodge and I voted that it will sell for above $12,000. That is one incredible instrument

I don't usually want for things... but I want that.
We have a lottery in Texas, which I never play, but I think I am going to buy a few numbers this week.
Oh man, that is an amazing uke.

Well, that is my favourite sound demo ever. I have never heard an ukulele sound that good. Kalei's playing was sublime, he showed it off in the best possible way. I could sit and listen to that forever. Utterly gobsmacked. Over 12K for me and if I had the money I would keep going.

edit to add: I just scrolled down the page on the Ukulele Site and have noticed there are two more clips of Kalei playing. Heaven.

An awesome ukulele and a great player, but it's also amazing to have such excellent audio in an outdoor recording too. I'm guessing over $12000 but less than $13800.

does make me wonder.. does something like that open up over time.. or is it MB magic?
cuz it's spruce...

I agree--that was an amazing recording outdoors. I liked hearing the ambient sounds. I watched it on my lovely smart TV--made it seem like Kalei and the scenery were in my living room with me.

I should've double-checked what the last Artist Series one sold for; I incorrectly "remembered" $11k and my intent was to have a category that was above that one. Goooof! Oh well, it's all in fun anyway...

Kalei mentioned that he could not believe how Chuck's uke sounded so open already....that is why Chuck is so good... all the new MB ukes sound like they had already been played a year...a MBU sounds even better with time.....

he wondered if he used a Tonerite....but Chuck does not use one....

Very nice video of Kalei. I am very happy to see that Chuck is getting rewarded for his efforts. I think it is a good idea to let the market decide what to charge for his instruments. That way Chuck does not seem greedy by setting high prices, yet the buyers are paying what they are willing to pay and everyone wins.

Outstanding ukulele craftsmanship, worth top dollar, whatever that turns out to be.

Last auction I mentioned that if I were in the market for a MB and had $13k to spend, I would not want a spec uke, I would try to get on the build list somehow. I'd rather have inlay that means something to me. Not that I am remotely in the market, and not just for financial reasons. But I also understand that some just want a MB no matter what it looks like. I have no idea what it would take to get on the list.

I like the auction method over stalking a website and clicking first. And having the market set the price for this uke is good for Chuck, and good for all uke builders; it raises the stature of the instrument, having such sought after models.

My bid was way too low, but not at the bottom. I am outta touch with what fine ukuleles are worth, even after listening to Kalei play it. That thing is fantastic, anyone would be lucky to get it. I hope whoever does plays the hell out of it. It's too good to wind up in a collector's cabinet.

Geez, so glad Chuck is building. Otherwise I would miss out on Kalei's fine playing of this fine instrument. What glorious, free entertainment. Thanks to both of you gentlemen! Beautiful. I am wonderfully entertained.

Well, I wish I could - but I have a daughter getting married in two months. I only meant that a poll that focuses exclusively on the price of a uke seems, I don't know, kind of, I don't know...

Maybe I'm no fun at all... :)

It's getting closer to the end (about an hour and a half as I write this). A good auction can be fun to watch, in the last minutes.

Outside my price range, but that looked like a reasonable price for that particular instrument. Of course it may have done better if the world's stockmarkets weren't seemingly in simultaneous freefall today?

The last one was great to watch the bidding keeping going back and forth for multiple rounds. I wasn't able to watch tonight and am surprised there wasn't more activity. But as @pritch mentioned, crashing markets certainly didn't help. Congrats to the buyer!!!

I think you're right. The recent market turmoil may have negatively affected bidders and potential bidders.

In History before any major stock market decline any highly collectables like paintings, instruments etc.. went for record sums at auctions - the smart ones are selling and the suckers are buying - if you have the money to buy toys now hold it for a year and get that dream uke for half or even less...

This article even though 4 years old seems very relevant - http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2011/04/the-art-of-bubbles-how-sothebys-predicts-the-world-economy/236852/

$9,025.

If you put Moore Bettah in the HMS search bar in the upper right of their screen, you'll see the uke with the final sale price listed beneath it.
