Has anyone played a uke by Josh Rieck of String Theory Luthiery? Seems like they're "Big in Japan".

From what I see on his website, he mostly builds Guitars, but also some unusual Violins and Basses as well as Ukuleles:

I got one from Japan...

Among all the ukes I tried at the Ohana ukulele store, this one is the most impressive one.

It has a really deep and full tone.

He will be at the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii show in Nov. at the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki...

Never heard of him. That shape looks pretty similar to the Hive Hornet shape and I want one of those really bad.

Looks interesting!

One of Josh Rieck's tenors from the 2015 Ukulele Guild of Hawaii was sold by HMS.
It sold fast, did not even make it to the website.
Here's a video of that beautiful instrument.

It was on the site but could have been pre-sold.

I was super impressed with what I saw and heard online. Several people (including well-regarded luthiers) who saw and/or played it while at the show told me it was really nice. Definitely a builder on which I'll be keeping tabs.

Josh is a super nice guy...he lives in Sioux Falls South Dakota and is one of the better young builders around.....the fit and finish are really good on his ukes and the tone is nice too...I got to meet him at the UGH show last month....

I got to play the uke above and thought it was really good...IMO

it got sold pretty fast and the buyer liked it a lot.....

Thanks for the link, Eddie. I really like Andrew's photos. It wasn't on HMS' site until after it sold. I was talking to Josh about that one right at the time it sold. So, I'm number 9 on his build list. :)

My J. Rieck will be ready in a few weeks. Torrefied spruce top / sapele 16" concert. I actually played it at UGH in November and the tone is absolutely fantastic. Jay Lichty (a luthier who is also a very, very good player) also played it and thought it was excellent. Josh refinished it after the show and I should have it back in late February. Will definitely do a review on it.
