My friend brought over his grandfather's old Martin and was wondering if I could find some info on it for him. From what I can tell it's a Martin Style 1, but I'm not sure about the date. It has wooden tuners so I'm guessing 1930s?

Its in very good shape, just needs a little cleaning. I tuned it up and it still plays well. I did notice 2 very faint hairline cracks on the back...it doesn't show up well in the photos though. Also comes with its original case. Any idea what it would be worth? I gave it a guess and told him probably around $500?

With the logo stamped on the back of the headstock, it is pre-1932. Someone else here can give a closer date.

That looks as though it may be a 1K (Koa) which should be worth quite a bit more. I'd clean it up and take it in to a professional.

I thought it looked like mahogany at first but now that you mention it, the grain does look more like koa and it could very well be a 1k.

Didn't Martin stop using wooden pegs around '23? And it does indeed look like koa.............making it a 1K, from the early 20's by my figuring (but hey, I could well be wrong!).
