I live in Oregon and have Been thinking of having a tenor built of local woods. walnut back and sides and myrtle top not sure how this combination would sound. does any one have any experience with myrtle wood?
Mytle is an excellent choice of wood. It is a very easy wood to work with. I made one so far, but it was a tenor with a spruce top and the back and sides were mytle. It sounded great, and i will defenitly use it again.
George Hinchliffe of our Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain playes a myrtle/spruce uke made by me. Use it - it's a dream to work with and it looks great.
I don't know where you are in Oregon, I'm in Cannon Beach. About thirty miles south of me in Garibaldi is a place called the Myrtlewood Factory. In the back is their wood room. If possible I recommend a visit. Always a good selection of myrtle, as well as figured maple, walnut and others. I've built a number of instruments using myrtlewood, it is great.
