I took a fall foliage trip through New England. It was pretty!
While in Vermont, I stopped in to see Jake Wildwood and get his input on the taro patch I inherited. I had previously sent him pictures but seeing it in person would let him evaluate the previous repair work that had been done.
I had a great time! I learned a lot about this instrument. The original guess was that this was a Harmony from the 20's. This was from looking at pictures of other old instruments on Jake's museum pages.
Once Jake held it, he said that several features clearly indicated it was an Oscar Schmidt. Teens or maybe 20's. He played it and suggested a few fixes. I also opted to swap out the Grover Champion pegs with some planetary geared pegs.
Oh, did I mention that Jake played it?

Thanks for all the help on embedding the video. I was using the filmstrip icon, but pasting the 'embed' link from youtube. Turns out that using the film strip icon and pasting the direct video link works.

If you take out the "s" in "https" in your link, it should imbed.

I was just at Jake's last week too, to drop off some consignments (and chat about them and other instruments, of course). It's always a fun trip. Glad you enjoyed your time; the foliage is really popping now.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that (with the link and the embed) but no luck. Can you embed it? I have tried looking at the source for other embedded videos but cannot see what I am doing wrong.

I was disappointed to find that the hot dry summer had delayed the colors. But back in February when I made the reservations, this was the best guess.
I will just have to come back some time and try again!

That's so very cool! I'm glad he isn't close by to me, or shall I say he should glad, because I might drop by so much as to wear out my welcome!

The way to embed videos is to click on the filmstrip icon when you're cresting your messasge, then enter the URL of the video (but make sure you use http:// instead of https://).
