It's an AbMaj7.

It's a G# or Ab. By now you should know that there are many different ways to play the same chord.

Also, the second chord you notated as 5121 is not a G#.

A 3
E 4
C 3
g 1

As others have said (and you've now found yourself), that's a G#.

Note that it's basically your regular G chord, but everything is moved up one fret higher. Which makes perfect sense, since "sharp" just means "one fret higher".

but my chord charts show a G# as

A 1
E 2
C 1
g 5

I've played G#. I know G#.

G# is a friend of mine.

That's no G#.

:D

Man bad day today with or with out the Mai Tai's I have chord problems!!!
I fixed the typo, I confused the fret mark with the suggested finger placement.

Ahhh haaa the move the fret down to sharp'en the chord, that part of theory make sence now!!!!
So it wasn't a wasted question, yaaaa!!!

As you can tell I live by the "There is no stupid question, only fools who think they know everything" theory!!!

Thanks everyone!!

Man I should just start over....
I'll have to wait till I get home to see what i'm trying to post!!!!

Yeah, it's just a G#7 or an Ab7.

The notes are: G#, B#, F#, B#

or:

Ab, C, Gb, C

EDIT:
BTW, your corrected post now shows a G# chord. Well done.

Third base.

Good luck getting this straightened out.

Ab7 variant? omitting the 5th (Eb) just a guess. too complicated for me. Ab+C+F#+C. i quit!

edit: oh cool. i didnt see keoni's post till i hit submit. i hope im right! haha

Yes, it's and Ab7 without a 5th. Thats a Gb in there rather than an F#.

Just a thought - if you find the Ab/G# a bit clumsy or awkward, just use your thumb to dampen the G string and play it the other three strings.
