Adding a Scoop to Banjo Uke?

I have a Gold Tone banjolele. I have been learning to play clawhammer style. The Uke sounds best when played up at the body join, but I don't like the way my thumb hits the neck.

Has anyone ADDED a scoop to their neck for frailing? Or should I just wait until I can afford my dream Beansprout in a few years?
