I have a tenor uke, African blackwood back and sides and sinker redwood top. It sounds like crap with a wound low g but sounds gorgeous with a flurocarbon low g. Any feedback as to why?

Technically...

3/4 of the ukulele should sound gorgeous all the time and only the low G string should sound like crap. You should only be swapping out the low G string. Then it is just a matter of trying to find the right low G string for the ukulele. And if you can't then find one that sounds good, keep it in high G.

Because wound strings don't belong on ukes . :p
(For the humor-impaired, that's a joke folks.)

What are the string brands?
