So my mom is getting married in like 4 or 5 months and my father in law (who plays the guitar/sings and has for quite some time) were going to play something for her at her wedding. My thing is, I don't know much about music and have only been playing the uke for a few weeks now, needless to say I don't have much in my bag of songs. What is a good song I could learn to play for a wedding. Preferably something that wouldn't be to hard for a beginning player, and also something that would hopefully have tabs or something I could download. thanks!

The best song to play for your mom's wedding is a song she picks. Ask her, not us. Once you've got her song, we'll help you with it.

Great answer....and 4 months is long enough for you to learn any song. And everyone here will help you. This will be the greatest gift you can give your Mom. She's going to be so proud. (Okay, I'm already crying....)

Good point, Ren.

So, if I'm getting this straight... you and your father-in-law are going to do a song together, right? He'll be singing and playing guitar, and you could simply strum along, right? So there aren't too many songs you couldn't do, as long as the chords weren't too crazy.

I've always been partial to our local classic 'Hawaiian Wedding Song".

Hawaiian Wedding Song/Ke Kali Nau - English lyrics by Al Hoffman and Dick Manning, 1958.

This is the moment
I' ve waited for.
I can hear my heart singing.
Soon bells will be ringing.
This is the moment
Of sweet Aloha.
I will love you longer than forever.
Promise me that you will leave me never.
Here and now, dear,
All my love I vow dear.
Promise me that you will leave me never.
I will love you longer than forever.
Now that we are one,
Clouds won't hide the sun.
Blue skies of Hawaii smile
On this, our wedding day.
I do love you
With all my heart.

Ke Kali Nei Au (Waiting For Thee) - Words & music by Charles King, 1926.

Translation:

Here I am waiting
Where is my beloved

I've searched for you
Now that I've found you
Calm the desire of my heart

Sealed forever to you
Sweetheart you are so precious
I pledge my love to you alone

I desire you (desire)
True to you alone (alone)
With you joy will ever be mine

You're mine (you're mine)
Oh, my lei (Oh, lei)
You`re mine, my lei

Fond remembrance of the one who came
My fragrant lei
Drenched in the rain

Listen you, my heart's desire
To the thought within me
Open the heaven within my body

My flower, my fragrant lei
I will string and bind
Like the fragrant jasmine flower

You are my blossom (you, my blossom)
My lei of lehua (lehua)

My desire is always to be with and close
To my love

My lei (my lei)
You're mine
My lei, you're mine

I am with Ahnko Honu. This is the exact song I will be playing for my fiance in August. I guess I better starting working on it. :shaka:
