View Full Version : The real reason I'm selling my ukulele

D-mace is selling a sweet 1950s Martin soprano because:
He bought a new watch!

What are your real reasons for selling?

Here are some of my UU favorites:
1. Thinning the herd
2. Needs to be played more (but not by me)
3. Need the money to pay for another uke
4. Looking for a good home (I'm kicking it out of mine)
5. I only play (insert size) now

This is not a serious thread people. Please have some fun.

A good summary of what we tell ourselves as well as providing an explanation to a prospective purchaser.

... Because I'm moving
... To try to finance a vacation--- but then when I get back I'll just buy more!

This is one game I can't participate in ... I refuse to sell any of my Ukes and fall into a world of regret like some others here have... :p

Even though it's good, it's the worst one out of the ukes I own...Actually, it's not that good

I want to try a different wood combo (aka this one sounds like crap)

It is too heavy (aka this one sounds like crap)

This fretboard is too narrow for me (aka this one sounds like crap)

I prefer a rosewood fretboard (aka this on sounds like crap)

I would rather not have a pin bridge ( aka this one sounds like crap)

****It is all code for (this one sounds like crap)

I believed the hype and now the bills have come due.

I need to sell because sex is better than looking at my multiple ukes. ( meaning = The wife is pissed I spent more money on an instrument. )

I spent all this money on a uke and I'm still no better. Maybe it'll make you better :)

You can say "It's not you...its me" but the bottom line is that they disappointed us. We're getting rid of them 'cuz we don't like them enough to keep them. Sometimes it's the size, sometimes it's just that the uke doesn't look, feel or sound (at least in our hands) like we expected, and if it did, we'd be keeping it.

I have to sell them...

...because in Hell, which is where I'm going, nobody can hear your strumming anyway.

...because as a person soon to be homeless and living in my car, I'll need the space to pack extra underwear.

...because she found my hiding place in the back of the closet, and 'needs' more room for her shoes and handbags, and otherwise there's no more nookie for me.

Because no matter how much of a chance I give it for some reason it never sounds as good as the one Corey plays in the HMS video! Maybe its the room acoustics and it'll play better at your house.

HAHA! This ^ is the best one so far to me.

Too true it seems especially since those Schoeps microphones that HMS uses for their videos are regarded by many of those in the music business with 'golden ears' as some of the best sounding mics that money can buy, at any price.

Woooo. What a good ourcase.co.uk (http://www.ourcase.co.uk) explanation to a prospective casesam.co.uk (http://www.casesam.co.uk) purchaser is!

I'm selling my ukes to fund the purchase of a fiddle and a violin. I plan to string them both gcea and play them like ukes. But at least when someone asks, is that a violin? or is that a fiddle? I can say yes and forego the explanation.

Only have lower end ukes here, so never really for the money. Although I have the policy to finance any luxury product (ukes and other) by selling other items.
But the main reason for selling ukuleles for me is that in my opinion any instrument should be played. If I'm not somebody else has to. Giving them away didn't work out, as most of them ended up as wallhangers. When someone pays for it they're most likely are going to be played.

I'm selling my ukes because my wife came home unexpectedly and caught me playing my banjo - resulting in the banishment of all stringed instruments from our home. :D

It smells funny

Happy wife, Happy life

It does not match the curtains

My wife used it as a bird house.

It sounds so pretty that it brings tears to my eyes and I can't read the tabs.

It may be worth mentioning that I have seen the inverse- I bought a very nice uke and the price has gone up, so I want to cash out at current full retail.
