Nice job!

I hope no one's done this one yet, I haven't been keeping track of this thread. It's not an original idea, but was sort of fun to do. It even features my last contest prize, the Fin-Der Diamondhead. It's not my best work either, but I don't really care. Sure I could get hung up on details and try to get it perfect, but I'd drive myself nuts. It's all about the fun.

Well... I feel like a total noob. I thought I was being totally clever covering this song! Your version definitely brought a smile to my face, though. So I count it all as a plus. :)

Anyway, mine's a little different. I've incorporated a little bit of "One Love" into my version... I'm not quite sure which category this fits into, but here it is! My first entry to this contest (and my ukulele-playing video debut):

You know, until I picked up a uke last June, I'd never even heard of Tiny Tim. When I did learn of him a few months ago, I only read here that he was a novelty act and that many ukers feel that he set the ukulele back in the public eye. People that see me playing my uke have asked me several times if I know any of his songs, but I'm always like, nah, I don't really know any of his stuff and I don't really want to be seen as a novelty act. Little did I know how genius he really was behind his stage persona.

Your Tiptoe Through the Tulips cover was wonderful and inspired me to look up some his stuff on youtube and listen to him for the first time today. I read his wikipedia article as well and decided that I think he's really great. So sincerely, thanks for being the catalyst to my opening up to Tiny Tim-- he's brilliant in my humble opinion and I'm really glad I looked into it.

Yeah Tim seems to occupy the same position that George Formby does in the UK - (the only uke player most people had heard of). When I thought of doing a reggae version for the comp. it was just me being a bit cheeky, but once I started playing it, I fell in love with the song (not originally by Tim of course) hence feeling the need to do a proper job of recording it and posting it again- Anyway there you have it, if you want to see the funny camera-shy man with the skinny beard and big ears playing uke live (and terrified) you can watch my first submission, otherwise you can watch ukemonkey in the second and hear how the song sounded in my head!

I think there is room for novelty in the world, alongside some of the awesome musical talent I've seen in other people's entries.
Thanks for taking the time to watch,
loves ya

I wonder if the judge realised just how many videos they were going to have to watch, and how good they'd be. I'm glad I don't have to pick a winner, I'd either have to give away loads of ukes, or break the one in to lots of pieces (the uke of Solomon) or perhaps everybody could have it for a couple of weeks...

I am amazed by the incredible spread of talent in the ukulele community. In addition to that there is collaboration, covering other UU'ers songs, and enthusiastic support of everyone else.

My uke gets here in a week or so, and I have been stuck in YouTube and here for WEEKS just soaking it all in.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread since it began and with so many awesome entries I didn't really see much point in entering this competition. However, all this reggae is too damn infectious so I just had to throw an entry in!

The Cat Empire - Rhyme and Reason (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqZdOFiT4tg)

The song is Rhyme and Reason by The Cat Empire. The more observant among you may have noticed that I messed up the ending a bit (ok a lot) and had to go a capella. Gonna leave it how it is though; I was never one for second takes and was getting sick of those same old chords anyway! :D

Hope you all enjoy it.

Guess What?? We're giving away a brand new Concert Mainland Ukulele (http://shop.mainlandukuleles.com/product.sc?categoryId=3&productId=9)!

To enter to win it, post a video of yourself playing a reggae song on your ukulele in THIS thread.

Your video can be a cover of a reggae song, an original reggae song, a reggae song in a different style of music, a non-reggae song in a reggae style - as long as it's on a uke and reggae-related, anything goes!

Mike of Mainland Ukes will be judging this one, so be yourself and do your best!

Post up to 3 entries per user (including collabs, if any)
Deadline is April 30th, 2009.

Can't wait to see those awesome reggae videos! Good luck!
The Deadline is coming. Is it Midnight April 30th, and in what time zone?
I might be working right up to the deadline on this one!

Here's my last minute entry. Having failed to get anything together for the "minty 60s" competition, I felt I had to come up with something for this challenge. I had intended to sing this in the style of the original (sort of) but when I started recording, it just didn't work so I quickly cobbled together this short instrumental version.

It's a bit rough but it'll have to do. I reserve the right to delete it or perhaps replace it with a better version at a later date, when I have more time.

My final and just in time submission...

This is me and my family members doing "House of the Rising Sun". It was covered by The Animals, Bob Dylan and many others. Ours is a take on the Gregory Isaacs a.k.a. Cool Ruler version. Big mahalos to my Bruddah Kaleo for getting this ready...this was a family affair:

This is our first ever music video and I must say I really enjoyed doing it.

Our entry is a cover of the Bob Marley classic "High Tide or Low Tide" which is ultimately about giving thanks and praise to The Almighty.

I want to thank Ukulele Underground and Mainland Ukes for getting me to listen to all of my old reggae cds and helping me rediscover my love for reggae music. Jah.

Also, many thanks to my beautiful wife, my youngest son and my daughter who sang back up vocals.

Special thanks to my son Jordan who was our producer and director. He also played the drums and sang back up vocals. If anyone deserves this uke, its him.

Most of all, I want to give thanks and praise to the Lord.

Oh man. Layering "One Love" in there was just brilliant. Ain't nothing noob about that.
