I'm playing a concert scale uke tuned down a semi tone.
I prefer the the darker sound, but was curious to know if you can buy strings that could be tuned this way without playing quite as slack? I dont mind the feel but surely volume, especially during picking would be lowered.
Any thoughts and suggestions on the matter? I'm in need of educating!

Peace

So you want reentrant B tuning on a 15" scale without losing much tension? Southcoast HMU-NW would seem to be what you're after: http://www.southcoastukes.com/ukulele.htm

Edit: BTW, I think you meant f# B D# G# - or you could call it gB Cb Eb Ab :p

I play most of my ukulele's detuned to some degree. Concerts can easily handle being detuned 1 semitone. I don't find that I lose any volume from detuning and I'm a picker. The tension is fine for me.

I detune most of my Tenor ukuleles 3 semitones with standard strings (Aquila) and I don't detect any volume loss.
