View Full Version : My new Portuguese Cavaquinho!

My lovely bf got me this for xmas, and I thought you lot here would like to see this. It's not strictly speaking a uke, but it's very similar. It's a Portuguese Cavaquinho (one of the ancestors of the uke, and smaller than the Brazilian version). It came with thin steel strings and is braced for them, but sounds great with nylon too!

Thanks for sharing. Certainly a good looking instrument, especially the bridge. What is the tuning?

a a c# e, d a b e, or g g b d. With different strings it can emulate the d g b d tuning of the Brazilian Cavaquinho, or the g c e a or d g b e of the uke.

The double a's and g's should produce an interesting drone effect.

Nice! I like to play and try lots of different instruments too, but most of mine are wind instruments. :old:
