I'm a huge fan of krautrock. "Kosmische Musik" from Germany from the early seventies is incredibly rich, diverse and highly original.
Six months ago Dieter Moebius passed away. He was one of the German pioneers of electronic music in the early seventies. Together with Hans Joachim Roedelius he made the prettiest electronic albums under their Cluster moniker. Manchmal is from their album Grosses Wasser from 1979. We recorded the song with ukuleles, glockenspiel, vibraphone and bass.
Moebius and Roedelius restored an old medieval farm and made it their home and studio. The beautiful farm and riverside location has an influence on their sound and compositions. They have a certain pastoral quality that's is unique in electronic music. They had a huge influence on Brian Eno (with whom they made several albums) and David Bowie. The farm has a little cameo in our animation we made to go along with the music. Animals go on a trip to the farm in Forst to say goodby to Moebius.
Thanks for watching!
Check out German music from the early seventies. It's a goldmine!
