A vintage ukulele came into Guitar Merchant for some basic repair and a restring. The interior branding says H. Weissenborn Los Angeles, Calif.

Of course I had to look it up. Turns out Hermann Weissenborn was well known for building hollow-neck Hawaiian style (koa, etc) lap guitars from the early 19-teens through his passing in 1937 at various shops in Los Angeles. Seems he kept moving while expanding his business.

This concert sized ukulele is in terrific condition and was handed down to a young woman by way of her grandfather. The case could be vintage as well, but the uke is certainly wonderful. Running the binding up the neck is simply showing off.

Very nice!

Thanks for posting those pictures. I recently bought a modern recreation of a twenties soprano Weissenborn. There are enough similarities between your pics and my uke to make me feel happy. No binding up the neck though :)
