Need info on Roy Smeck Ukulele

I recently acquired an old Harmony soprano Smeck ukulele. In my research most Smeck ukes I come across have plastic finger boards, but this one looks like the frets were installed directly on the neck with a painted on fingerboard. Anyone have any idea of what year this is from?

I think they are from the early 1950s. I have two of them. The frets are brass and rather squarish. I crowned the frets on my first one and I liked it so much that I bought another one. The scale length is shorter than that of a Martin or a contemporary soprano, but they have a nice sound, in my opinion.
