I often play ukulele in our backyard. A couple of month ago, I put the ukulele against a wall, when I changed music sheet. It tipped over by accident and it's got a dent in its side. I was bit upset. After that, I installed strap pin. Now I have my both hands free with the strap. I don't need to put my ukulele on the floor any more. The risk of accident might be smaller than before. Now I can even drink a cup of coffee with my ukulele on my back. Latest Ukulele Magazine says that strap protects our ukulele a lot in party. I think strap pin is worth installing.

I install two strap buttons on all my ukes and basses. As you say, another level of safety.

Drilling in a 1/8" hole with a dremel tool, then tightening up the strap button with a #2 Phillips. 2 mins of work and you're good to go for a lifetime.

I do it on all my instruments. (well those that do not have an endpin jack for the pickup, I do those too, but that's another story...)
