its been a long road to put the machine together and to get it all to work okay! steep learning curve but the outcome I think in the long run will be worth it!

on the road to inlay!

That is awesome. I have been wanting to build my own as well. Did you buy a kit or plans?

bought a stepcraft machine model 600 but its tough going putting it together and getting all directions to work... I feel like i ve gone through a living nightmere with it but come out the other side! I think you say its been x3 days from flat pack to up and running (spread over a couple of weeks between my proper job)

but alls well and just running some experiments on it now. will hope to mill out whole outlines of ukes and inlay and all that on this machine as its 600mm by about 430mm travel on it..... I tried inlay routing by eye but any tiny fault and jewellery training eye just cant stand it!

I started a thread on this way back ..This was my 4th CNC router build and the most advanced so far....But! I still can't operate a CNC machine..I guess i'm getting too old to learn all this CAD CAM & G codes stuff...so you are way ahead of me.

these sorts of machines are now quite affordable..... the software compared with some aint so hard really and plenty of utube stuff to help explain it all. i do cad and 3-d wax printing for a living so guess maybe its an add on to skills I have. each to there own and work to your strong points. Hey your never to old to learn! the best 3-d jewellery cad modeller was 57 years old when he learnt cad he was the best jeweller in the area til hand skills on the jewellery scale started to fade to he just became the best cad modeller instead!
