Seems to me since this is the Singing sub-forum perhaps we should have a thread for singing performances, with ukulele accompaniment of course. But singing, you know? Not about your chops on the uke but about the singing. I've seen so many great players post videos of pieces I could never hope to play on the instrument. But being pretty much a strummer myself, I really enjoy singing a song......working it.....trying to apply all the little things I've learned to improve......doing my best to put them all together at the right time. Those that sing must know of what I speak........yes?

So let's hear some voices..........!!

FYI: This may not be what you want, but for nearly 212 weeks straight, the 'Seasons Of The Ukulele' have been running here on UU, and there is most certainly singing all the time in more than a dozen or 2-3 dozen videos every single week.

The most current session or 'Season' as I write this is over here:

also the special section for 'Seasons Of The Ukulele' is here (under the Contests section):

Enjoyed your singing and your playing. I'd contribute but neither my singing nor my playing is worthy of recording. I do perform live but HATE to watch myself back. Anytime I've recorded, I've always deleted it. I'd rather remember it as better than it actually was.

One I was quite happy with.

And I thought this one came out OK as well.

Both of these are in my low register. I do find I am much happier with the sound of my vocals when I add some reverb in the video editing process. I think it's kind of cheating but I do it anyway. But not always sometimes I just leave it as it comes.
I also flubbed a chord in this vid but I almost always (over 90% of the time I'd say) go with just one take.
Doing take after take just really spoils the enjoyment for me. I do play it lots before turning on the camera.

I too use reverb most of the time but I don't think it is cheating. Cheating would be autotune. Reverb does not change a flat note to a pitch perfect zone. Reverb is something that every studio uses. Why? because it give ambiance to the music. It takes away that dead air sound that feels cold. It isn't only used by a singer but by orchestras and solo instrumentalists. It carries one note to the next much like the pedal on the piano. Used correctly it adds just enough to sooth the listener. This is why I choose to use it 90% of the time. Yes, reverb can be over done. I usually back off from the default settings and rarely I will boost it. That all depends on the song. Echo on the other hand I never use.

It makes the listener feel like he is hearing music in a venue like a church. That is why music houses are built with a dome behind the performers. It adds pleasure for the listener and well as the performer.

Sometime and most often I use it and other times I don't. Its a personal preference thing I guess.

Here is the bathroom reverb. Not what I consider my best but a good reverb example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW1jiNqVH-0

Here is one I think turned out vocally well with a very slight reverb used.

And here is one I think turned out nice without any reverb.

Well, I listened to all the songs on this thread and really enjoyed them. Sometimes I wish I had the nerve to do somethin' like them. I guess I'm just too bashful and self critical.

Anyway, great goin'. Keep it up! :old:
