It's Zimnicki I got the spelling wrong on the thread title. There's a a couple of Zmi promo videos that touch on the Detroit Housing timber being used for uke building, and a tenor sound sample. I was wondering if anyone actually has one, and their thoughts.....
DF is an interesting timber, with slightly pinkish hues to the flesh. We've used a lot of it in the past for house building here in the UK, during the Victorian era when there was a massive house building phase. So, getting hold of some is a feasible proporsition. I've had a uke made from English Yew which is my favourite woodland tree ( lovely warm tone similar nearest to cedar ) maybe if I come across a nice piece of DF I'll keep it for a possible future project.
