I get an awful humming, as if the flanger is on, when I hold the Vorson uke up to play it. If I lay it flat, lik a lap steel, the noise isn't there. Anyone have experience with this?
That sort of sound can occur if the nut slot is cut incorrectly. Is it just one string doing it or all of them?
I'm about to pick up some shielding tape myself. Not quite sure how to apply and ground it though. If it doesn't work out. I'll buy a Risa LPI've read the hum is very common on $100ish vorson's.
People seem to think it's a shielding issue.
Some people have tried to shield the pickups with some kinda foil tape.
When I asked on the results.. they never got back to me.
Since the noise varies with the orientation of your ‘uke, you might be dealing with EMI from the electrical devices that surround you. This (long) video suggests a noise gate might be helpful. Does the “noise-when-laying-flat-problem” occur in other rooms in your house?

There are many videos about how to add shielding on the Web. Here are a few, preceded by a Web page link;

If you don’t want to tackle this yourself, a music store that sells electric guitars ought to be able to do this for you.
I don’t understand why anyone would think this is a problem only experienced with a Vorson. The Web has hundreds of posts about this hum issue for very, very many brands of solid-body instruments. This seems to be a common topic for do-it-yourself remedies.
How disappointing. I was hoping to read a success story.
Perhaps the tape is making contact with some of the electronics, and some insulation between the aluminum tape and the electronics would solve the problem. Perhaps a wire got broken or nicked (or came loose) and a continuity tester would reveal where the problem lies.
Just go back through it making certain no wires are touching the foil or have come off. Guitar/ukulele electronics are fairly simple. The vorson is not dead forever dont give up on it so easily.

I think perhaps there was something wrong with your Vorson's input jack.
If you unscrewed and got it out, you could probably have fixed it by bending the metal prong that makes contact with the guitar cable plug - it may have been bent the other way not making proper contact.
