So, I teach swimming, and one of my lesson's parents, upon hearing I played uke, offered to give me his grandmother's old uke from the 50's.

He said it was an Islander ukulele.

I asked if it were plastic (with fingers crossed), and he said, no, that it was wood and that it needed a bit of luthering (just some re-gluing of a seam).

So, I'm getting the uke in a week or two (he wants to bring it to our local luther to get fixed before giving it over- did I mention he's awesome?) And in the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone has heard of a wooden Islander uke. I did a google search, and it appears as if they are plastic ukes- not wood.

I'm wondering if I maybe heard the brand name wrong...

Thanks in advance.

Very cool, Valerie! I hope it's a great player for you. Even if it's not, that's a great story and a nice gift.

I bet you it's a great instrument, tho!:)
