I've posted this in the Regional Get Togethers section, but I want to be sure as many people as possible know about this, so I'm posting it here as well.
For the past three years U-Space, the uke store and coffee bar in Downtown Los Angeles, has held the LA Ukulele Expo, which includes an attempt at breaking the Guinness World record for simultaneous ukulele players. The first year there were just over 1,000, and last year there were 2,370 with participation by Daniel Ho and Tia Carrera, but the record was set last year by French Polynesia with 4,792.
It seems to me that here in Southern California we can do a lot better than that, so get the word out, on Sat. July 9, 2016 at 9 am the attempt will be made again.
