I'm looking at some black limba (also known as karina or afara) for backs and sides. Does anyone have experience with this wood and its bendability/workablility/suitability? I have no experience with this wood and the Janka hardness number at ~700 seems awfully soft (rosewood is about 2,800 for reference). Thanks.

I've used it for several instruments and continue to stock pile it when I can. Its a lot like mahogany in working qualities, but less troublesome to bend. And prettier. I've never used charts to help me acquire wood, I just buy a set and use it. When I can find it as lumber I buy that, too, whatever the species might be. Initially I thought I would stumble onto the perfect lutherie wood. But even if I did I would still keep trying new species. So far I've not found one that let me down.
