...I think this whole thing was a carrot on a stick from the get-go.
But I'm Certified. I may be Certifiable before my stint with hospice is over.
I apologize for ranting, I just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks for "listening".
Nickie, so sorry that music is being hindered there.
Maybe over the next year you should see if you can get the company to pay for additional training/certifications such that when your time is up there, you can go out and do Music Therapy on you own, and freelance for those with relatives in hospice that need the music. Sort of a Musical Private Nurse thing...
Anyway, just an idea, and again kudos to you for fighting the good fight and trying to ease the suffering of those in need near you. No matter what the suits say or do, rest easy knowing that your work is meaningful to your patients.
When looking at colleges, one thing I considered was majoring in Music Therapy, and found some good schools (back in 1988) but pretty quickly that there was really no money in it at that time, I mean it was just above working at McDonalds
...and the programs I liked were 8-9 yr programs that were combined programs with Bachelors in Music, Masters of Fine Arts (Music) and PhD in Applied Therapy (Music)...and while I'd be nicely credentialed at the end of it and well trained to be effective in helping folks in need, I'd also have student loans near $100k that would take me almost 10 yrs of saving before I could afford minimum loan payments, and then about another 20 yrs to pay out via Sallie Mae.
I even looked for a Grant or Fellowship, and came up empty at that time.
Maybe now it's a different scene...
