Have you played one? They sound very different from a regular uke. I played one Ko'olau archtop: loud and punchy - like a mandolin (dynamics-wise). My sense is that it would work best in an ensemble setting as opposed to solo playing. Just my opinion, however.

That said, I know very little about the subject, but I have internet muscles.
