I have been making ukulele since 1994, first exporting to Hawaii under a contract to supply Music Exchange and then going it on my own in the world. After 22 years I get to visit Oahu (currently) and the Big Island (next week). The opportunity to have musicians of note critique your work is always helpful - today it was a humbling experience. Here is a tight edit of a lively discussion between Bryan Tolentino and Aaron and Corey at Ukulele Site in Halaweia. Neither Bryan nor Corey could put it down despite it not having a 'traditional' koa sound. Now some of you will ask, "How did you achieve this?" Three words: 'experience' and 'don't know'. Yes I've made changes to my bracing and reduced body depth. However this piece was made from a highly figured piece of compression type curly koa - the hardest to work with. It has, according to these guys, a player's feel with a unique voice. Check it out...
