View Full Version : Tension of Aquila nylgut strings for soprano ukulele

Hello, I have some old ukuleles where Ive thinned the top. Not that much, just down to approximately 1,7 mm.
Could there be any risk at using Aquila nylgut strings with it?
Ive seen somewhere that Martin had a sort of aimed value of 1,5 mm for the thickness of the top of there ukuleles.

What do you think?

Best regards

There are too many factors that are an unknown. Wood varies in density, even of the exact same species. The degree of grain runout and how far on the quarter (or not) it has been sawn. There's also the matter of bracing.
You can always start with lower tension strings.
